The government is making is mandatory for engineering graduates to take an examination to get licence for their professional practice.
Till now, a BE graduate would automatically get the licence by Nepal Engineering Council.
But, the government is preparing to amend the Council Act, making the licence exam mandatory as in the case of medical doctors.
The Council itself had taken initiatives to amend the act. In the draft submitted at the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, the Council has proposed conducting such exams twice a year.
The legislation committee of the Council of Ministers is studying the bill now.
Meanwhile, the amendment has proposed relaxing the action to be taken against the professionals if they violate the code of conduct.
