Let’s forge consensus, rather than confrontation : Minister Pokhrel

Kathmandu. Minister for Education and Science Technology, Giriraj Mani Pokhrel, has said the agenda of reform in the country’s medical education was not only of Dr Govinda KC but also of every Nepali.
Responding to the queries raised by National Assembly lawmakers on a proposal of vital public importance relating to National Medical Education Bill 2075 today, Minister Pokhrel said the Mathema report had come at a time when the issue of medical education became almost extremely negative.
“Let’s be pragmatic, and act wisely. Let’s trust that problems would be solved by forming a commission. It is not right time to stage a hunger strike. The people like Dr KC need not stage strike but work in a commission. We need to seek solution based on process and rationale but not obduracy,” Minister argued.
He however said the suggestion furnished by the report of the Mathema taskforce would remain milestone for reforms in medical education and health service. “Let’s forge consensus, rather than confrontation. Consensus would be forged with common understanding. New commission could be tasked to determine whether Kathmandu Valley could have more medical colleges in 10 years.”
Various lawmakers urged agitating Dr KC to end strike and respect the supremacy of legislature.
